Robustness of Competing Climatic States

چکیده
The climate is a non-equilibrium system undergoing the continuous action of forcing and dissipation. Under effect spatially inhomogeneous absorption solar energy, all components dynamically respond until an approximate steady state (or attractor) reached. However, multiple states can co-exist for given with same boundary conditions. Here, we apply Thermodynamic Diagnostic Tool (TheDiaTo) to investigate statistical properties five co-existing climates, ranging from snowball ice-free aquaplanet, obtained in MITgcm coupled simulations. aim explore multistability model setup by highlighting differences competing their characteristic signatures regarding meridional transport heat water mass, Lorenz energy cycle material entropy production. We also how such attractors change when configuration varied. consider, particular, changing representation cloud albedo, implementing improved closure budget. find that, even if dynamics remains on attractor, variables are modified. set metrics TheDiaTo quantifies modifications represents valuable tool evaluation.

Robustness of Attractor States in Complex Networks
We study the intrinsic properties of attractors in the Boolean dynamics in complex network with scale-free topology, comparing with those of the so-called random Kauffman networks. We have numerically investigated the frozen and relevant nodes for each attractor, and the robustness of the attractors to the perturbation that flips the state of a single node of attractors in the relatively small ...
متن کاملRobustness of Entanglement for Bell Decomposable States
We propose a simple geometrical approach for finding the robustness of entanglement for Bell decomposable states of 2 ⊗ 2 quantum systems. It is shown that the robustness of entanglement is equal to the concurrence. We also present an analytical expression for two separable states that wipe out all entanglement of these states. Finally the random robustness of these states is also obtained.
متن کاملRobustness and diffusion of pointer states
Classical properties of an open quantum system emerge through its interaction with other degrees of freedom (decoherence). We treat the case where this interaction produces a Markovian master equation for the system. We derive the corresponding distinguished local basis (pointer basis) by three methods. The first demands that the pointer states mimic as closely as possible the local nonunitary ...
متن کاملPseudogap and Competing States in Underdoped Cuprates
I shall argue that the high Tc problem is the problem of doping into a Mott insulator. Furthermore, the well documented pseudo-gap phenomenon in underdoped cuprates holds the key to understanding this physics. Phase fluctuation alone cannot explain this phenomenon, but there is a clear need to identify a competing state which lives in the vortex core. The staggered flux state is a good candidat...
